Frank & Louisa (Mueller) Dietz
Frank and Louisa were both born in 1867 and married in 1885.
Tragically, Frank died in 1899 at just 31, leaving Louisa a widow with five surviving children of the six they had together: Emil, Emma, Mary, Frank Jr, and Louisa Jr. Per the 1900 census, the children’s ages ranged from 14 to 6, all spaced two years apart.
Louisa did not remarry, but raised the children to adulthood. Her youngest would have been 20 at the time of Louisa’s death at only 46 of an acute intestinal obstruction which just sounds terrible especially to happen in 1914.
I believe their families had money and were able to help Louisa out. I didn’t do too much digging on this, and I didn’t pursue the children’s stories, but I did find a mention of Louisa in her father‘s will which looked well planned and extensive and even just going by this headstone, there was money somewhere. (if I’m interpreting the 1880 census correctly, I believe Frank’s father also owned a box factory so… Money was around.)
Anyway, absolutely love this marker. The statue is one of the more beautiful ones I’ve ever seen.
RIP Dietzes
